This article provides the minimum hardware requirements for a Retail Management System (RMS) computer.
SQL Server 2000 has its own requirements, which are available here:

The hardware requirements for Store Operations include:
- Processor: 500 MHz Intel Pentium (PIII) or higher compatible CPU
- Memory: 128 MB of RAM or higher
- Hard Disk Space: 50 MB of available hard disk space for Store Operations application and files.
*Note: At least 1 GB of available hard disk space on the server for Store Operations database and future growth. - Network Card: 32-bit
Headquarters Hardware Requirements
The hardware requirements for Headquarters include:
- Processor: 500 MHz Intel Pentium (PIII) or higher compatible CPU
- Memory: 256 MB of RAM or higher
- Hard Disk Space: 60 MB of available hard disk space for Headquarters application and files.
*Note: At least 1 GB of available hard disk space on the server for Headquarters database and future growth. - Network Card: 32-bit
Note: The hardware recommendations listed above are general guidelines. Microsoft strongly recommends considering current hardware on the market for optimal performance and reliability.
RMS Software Requirements
Retail Management System supports the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows 98® or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 1a
- Microsoft Windows ServerTM 2003
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003
- Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.7 Service Pack 1
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 with Service Pack 1
- Microsoft Directory Services Client
Note: The above requirements are the bare minimum for the software to run. eVision Systems recommends Microsoft XP Pro for all installations. XP Pro allows clients more options for support.
Note: Service packs are the means by which product updates are distributed. Service packs keep the product current and extend and update functionality. Prior to each release of Retail Management System, Microsoft tests it using the latest operating systems, database engines, and other required software components that are available at the time. Microsoft makes every effort to test any new service pack that is released after Retail Management System is released.
