More About Hialeah

According to the US Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.7 mi² (51.1 km²). 19.2 mi² (49.8 km²) of it is land and 0.5 mi² (1.3 km²) of it (2.53%) is water.

Hialeah is located at 25°51`38?N, 80°17`38?W (25.860474, -80.293971).

Hialeah is a large city with a well established cultural character. A diverse populus from all over Latin America and the Carribean. A working class city, with quite, safe, subcitified neighborhoods and bustling gritty comercial and industrial sectors. The city has been well known for its Cuban community since the late 60`s and early 70`s. Today the city is more diverse and known for its multi-cultural populus from not only Cuba but all over the Carribean and N and south America even small communities from China and other Asian countries.

The city`s name is most commonly attributed to Muskogee origin, "Haiyakpo" (prairie) and "hili" (pretty) combining in "Hialeah" to mean "pretty prairie". Alternatively, the word is of Seminole origin meaning "Upland Prairie". The city is located upon a large prairie between Biscayne Bay and the Everglades.
